Fort Gerhard – a living history lesson on the Baltic Sea

Fort Gerhard, also known as the Eastern Fort, is one of the best-preserved 19th-century Prussian forts on the Baltic Sea. Located on the island of Wolin, near the entrance to the port of Świnoujście, it represents a unique combination of military architecture, history, and... interactive adventure.

Built in the mid-19th century by the Prussians as part of the fortifications of the Świnoujście Fortress, it served defensive purposes for decades. Throughout its history, it was used by various armies – German, and after World War II, also Polish. Today, it is a fascinating museum and a place where history comes alive before visitors' eyes.

During tours of Fort Gerhard, guests are cast in the role of recruits – under the guidance of a uniformed guide, they participate in "military training," discovering the secrets of military life from over 100 years ago. You can see original casemates, artillery positions, powder magazines, as well as displays of military equipment and documents.

This is not just a museum – it’s an adventure! The fort offers a unique atmosphere and an interactive approach to history, making the visit an attraction for both adults and children. The site also features themed exhibitions and a viewpoint overlooking the port and the sea.
